About Us

Hi, I am Melinda.  I started Flower Mound Escape in 2003.  It has changed and evolved over the years, but my basic idea has always been that handmade is just a little bit more fun.

It all started with candles.  I love making candles.  At the time, I was in the Oklahoma National Guard and working as a correctional officer at a medium security men's facility.  I was also pregnant with my third child.  It was an interesting adventure, to say the least.  The name actually came from the warden at the time.  It started out as a joke really.

I started selling the candles that I made to some of my coworkers.  He asked me if that was the way I was going to escape the prison on Flower Mound Road.  That was the day that Flower Mound Escape was born.  I guess that I did.

I eventually retired from the military after 2 deployments.  Decided it was a good time to go back to college because I had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up and somehow ended up with a master's degree.  On the other hand, I felt the overwhelming need to make things.  All the things.

Life has twisted and turned.  It led me to a small town in Louisiana where I live with my partner Duane, our two hellhounds (Fezzik and Ludo) and 4 grumpy snakes. It is always an adventure, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Craft happy.
